Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 6/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 6: A bit better than average.
Vaude's weight of 1.69 kg (Alpinetrek and Hardloop) is in the 1.5–1.99 kg band. It is a total weight; no separate minimum is published.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.
Fly 3,000 mm is in the 3,000 mm+ band; the 3,000 mm floor is over 2,000 mm, so no point comes off. Vaude glues all seams. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.
Wind
Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.
Space
From maker's figures 9/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Hardloop gives Vaude's inner tent area as 3.3 m² (the 230 x 150 cm interior is a rectangle, so it overstates a tapering tunnel). 3.3 ÷ 2 people = 1.65 m² each, in the 1.6 m²+ band. It is sold for 2-3 people: with three it would be 1.1 m² each.
Packed size
From maker's figures 5/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Packs to 45 x 16 cm: 3.1416 x 8 x 8 x 45 = 9,048 cm³, so 9.05 L, in the 7–9.9 L band.
In short
Good for
- Two people on three-season trips who want a light, roomy tunnel tent
- Longer walks where a 1.69 kg tent split between two keeps pack weight down
- Trips where a third person may squeeze in for a night (Vaude sells it as 2-3 person)
Strengths
- Light for the room: 1.69 kg with a 230 x 150 cm interior
- Fly 3,000 mm and floor 3,000 mm, with glued seams
- Mosquito-mesh vents with rain-protected hoods
- Packs to 9 L
Weaknesses
- Not freestanding: it needs pegs and guylines, so it is hard to pitch on rock or very hard ground
- One door and one porch, so one person climbs over the other
- The 3,000 mm floor is thinner protection than the 5,000–10,000 mm floors on similar tents, so a footprint helps on stony ground
- We found no independent test of this tent, so wind and pitching claims here are Vaude's, not reviewers'
