Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Vargo's page gives 30 g. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 24 g, a shop figure we do not use. Both are under the 60 g line. The legs fold into pot supports, so no separate stand is needed.
Packed size
From maker's figures 8/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 8: Clearly better than most.
Vargo gives the folded size as 76 mm across and 30 mm high (Ultralight Outdoor Gear repeats it). Worked as a cylinder 7.6 cm across and 3 cm high: 3.14 x 3.8 x 3.8 x 3 = 136 cm3, about 0.136 L, in the 0.08-0.19 L band.
Boil speed (still air)
Estimate from maker's specs: fuel type (no boil time published) 1/10How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in still air. Wind slows every stove: see Wind performance. 1: A real weak point.

In short
Good for
- Solo trips where weight and pack size matter: 30 g, about 7.6 cm across folded
- Boiling water for a drink or a dehydrated meal in a small pot
- Trips where fuel supply is uncertain: it burns alcohol, solid fuel tablets or fuel gel (Vargo)
Strengths
- 30 g (Vargo) in solid titanium, with folding legs that double as pot supports and anchor the stove
- Burns denatured, ethyl or methyl alcohol, solid fuel tablets or fuel gels: flip it over for tablets and gels (Vargo)
- 44 ml fuel capacity and about 20 minutes of burn on alcohol, about 12 minutes on a tablet (Vargo)
- Enlarged filling hole for quicker fuelling (Vargo)
- PaleoHikerMD found the pot supports well made and holding where you leave them; VincentGilliganEDC found they stay quite well once set
Weaknesses
- Slow to get going: PaleoHikerMD says it needs a full fill of about 40 ml to prime, then about 2 minutes to bloom, and boiled two cups in 10 min 20 s; Northwest Walking's cold-air test (about 5 °C) never brought 300 ml to a boil
- No flame control (PaleoHikerMD). It has to be nearly full to work, and PaleoHikerMD found putting the flame out and recovering the fuel fiddly
- VincentGilliganEDC found the legs hard to open at first and it slow to prime in the cold
- Vargo gives no 1 litre boil time and no review tests it in wind, so boil, wind and control are estimates, not reviewed scores
