Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 9/10

How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.

Vargo's page gives 55 g in its spec line and 56 g under Additional Info; we use the heavier, 56 g, which is under the 60 g line. Bikepacking.com weighed 56 g and Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 58 g (shop figure), also under 60 g. The nylon case is extra.

Packed size

From maker's figures 7/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 7: Better than most.

Vargo gives the folded size as 70 x 80 x 32 mm (length x height x width) under Additional Info on its page. Its spec line prints 'L 70 x H 32 mm' beside a separate 80 mm height, so the 32 mm there is the width, not a second height; Tamarack Outdoors lists L 70 x H 79 mm. Worked as a box 7 x 8 x 3.2 cm: 7 x 8 x 3.2 = 179 cm3, about 0.18 L, in the 0.08-0.19 L band. Using the 79 mm height gives the same band.

Boil speed (still air)

Estimate from maker's specs: fuel type (no boil time published) 5/10

How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in still air. Wind slows every stove: see Wind performance. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Wind performance

Estimate from maker's specs: windshield in the box 3/10

How well it keeps boiling in a breeze, as sold, without an extra windshield. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

In short

Good for

  • Solo trips and short overnights where every gram counts: 55 g with a case in the box
  • Boiling water for hot drinks and dehydrated meals in a pot of 1 litre or less
  • Anyone who wants a titanium stove with fixed pot supports that should not work loose

Strengths

  • 55 g (Vargo); Bikepacking.com's scale read 56 g
  • Pot supports rotate rather than fold in several places; Bikepacking.com found them arguably the most stable of the three stoves it compared
  • Quietest of the three stoves Bikepacking.com timed, and 400 ml of room-temperature water boiled in 3 min 14 s (the MSR PocketRocket took 2 min 44 s, the Snow Peak LiteMax 3 min 43 s)
  • Wire valve lever gives low-end control: Bikepacking.com rated its simmer above average
  • Nylon carry case in the box

Weaknesses

  • Not as small as other ultralight canister stoves: about 7 x 8 x 3.2 cm folded, and Bikepacking.com says it does not pack as small as some
  • Supports are narrower than folding ones and the burner head is narrow, so pots over 1 litre are less well served (Bikepacking.com)
  • The wire control lever does not fold over the base (Bikepacking.com)
  • No built-in igniter and no regulator listed, so output falls as the canister cools or empties; Vargo gives no cold rating, so we do not mark it winter-ready
  • No wind test of this model found, and Vargo publishes no 1-litre boil time
  • Only one review of the Jet-Ti 2 itself was found, so wind and control are estimates, not reviewed scores
