Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
From maker's figures 6/10How cold a night you can sleep comfortably through. 6: A bit better than average.
Vango's own archive page for this bag gives comfort 2 °C, limit -4 °C and extreme -21 °C, tested to EN 13537:2002. Comfort 2 °C is in the 0.1 to 5 °C band. Cotswold's current page only shows a 0 to 5 °C range, calls it 2 season, and lists a -2 °C minimum, so the archive page (the 2023 and 2024 editions) is our source.
Room inside
Estimate from maker's specs: bag shape (fewer than 3 reviews about room) 3/10How much room to move, bend your knees and sleep on your side. Roomier is comfier. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
No review we found says how roomy it is, so this is an estimate from the bag shape.
Weight
From maker's figures 3/10How much it adds to your pack. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
1,680 g (Vango lists 1.68 kg) is in the 1,300 to 1,699 g band.
Packed size
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.
Vango gives no litres. Its packed size of 29 x 20 cm, worked as a roll, is 3.1416 x 10 x 10 x 29 = 9,111 cm³, about 9.1 L, in the 9 to 12.9 L band, just over the edge from the 6 to 8.9 L band.
In short
Good for
- Cheap spring and summer camping, and youth groups such as Duke of Edinburgh trips, where nights stay above about 2 °C
Strengths
- Comfort 2 °C and limit -4 °C on Vango's own EN 13537 figures, good for the money
- Synthetic Alpha fill with a siliconised coating, so it is easy to look after
- Insulated shoulder baffle and zip baffle, a 3D hood with a drawcord, an internal pocket and a four-strap compression sack
Weaknesses
- Heavy and bulky for backpacking: 1,680 g and about 9.1 L packed
- Cotswold's current page calls it a 2 season bag with a 0 to 5 °C comfort range, while Vango's archive page says 3 season and comfort 2 °C: expect it to suit spring to early autumn only
- Comfort 2 °C is the maker's lab figure for a standard woman on a very warm mat; cold sleepers should expect to need layers near freezing
- No independent tests found, so damp performance, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
