Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 5/10

How much it adds to your pack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Trangia gives 170 g, in the 120-179 g band. GO Outdoors repeats 170 g and lists a wool cover among the features, so the figure may include it; Trangia does not say.

Packed size

Estimate from maker's specs: stove weight (no packed size published) 5/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Estimate from maker's specs

Boil speed (still air)

From maker's figures 7/10

How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in still air. Wind slows every stove: see Wind performance. 7: Better than most.

Trangia gives 3.5 min (210 s) per litre, in the 190-229 s band. Lone Wolf Explorer measured about 5 min to 5 min 21 s for 1 L on a Trangia, which would be the 300-479 s band, so the brand figure is optimistic. The brand's figure is what the method uses.

Wind performance

Estimate from maker's specs: windshield in the box 3/10

How well it keeps boiling in a breeze, as sold, without an extra windshield. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

In short

Good for

  • Gas cooking in a Trangia 25 Large, 27 Small or Triangle stove, in place of the spirit burner
  • Simmering as well as boiling: two reviewers say the flame adjusts
  • People who want a gas option made in Sweden

Strengths

  • 2300 W output and 192 g per hour fuel use (Trangia)
  • Trangia's figure is 1 L in 3.5 min (210 s)
  • Fits the Triangle, 25 Large and 27 Small (Trangia)
  • Broken Back Mountains and Redswede Outdoors both found the flame adjustable

Weaknesses

  • 170 g, heavy next to a stand-alone gas stove, and it needs a Trangia stove to work
  • Lone Wolf Explorer measured about 5 min to 5 min 21 s for 1 L, well over Trangia's 3.5 min
  • No winter rating from Trangia, so winter ready is 0
