Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 7/10

How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 7: Better than most.

Toaks gives the whole kit as 109 g (pot with lid 72 g, folding stove 13 g, spork 18 g, windscreen 6 g, without the sack); Ultralight Outdoor Gear says 110 g. 109 g for the 550 ml pot = 198 g per litre, in the 150-219 g/L band (110 g is too). Only the pot counts as capacity.

Cooking and ease of use

Estimate from maker's specs: what it is made of 3/10

How evenly it heats, whether food sticks or burns, cleaning, and the handles, lid, pouring and steadiness on a small stove. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

In short

Good for

  • Solo hikers who want a complete boil kit in one 109 g pack
  • Boiling water for one freeze-dried meal or a brew with solid-fuel tablets
  • Emergency or day-walk kit that nests into one pot

Strengths

  • Whole kit 109 g: pot with lid, folding solid-fuel stove, folding spork and windscreen
  • Everything nests inside the 550 ml pot, with room left for fuel tablets and a lighter, in a mesh sack
  • The windscreen can completely encircle the pot

Weaknesses

  • Only 550 ml, so it suits one person
  • Solid-fuel tablets are not included, and a tablet stove gives less control than a gas stove
  • No independent reviews of today's kit found
