Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Warmth

From maker's figures 5/10

How cold a night you can sleep comfortably through. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Therm-a-Rest's EN comfort figure is 5 °C (limit 0 °C), in the 0.1 to 5 °C band. Trailspace found the comfort figure the honest one (cold spots from about 7 °C, and it says the quilt should be named for 5 °C), and Advnture was warm in it at its comfort rating.

Room inside

Estimate: only 2 reviews about room inside (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How much room to move, bend your knees and sleep on your side. Roomier is comfier. 6: A bit better than average.

Reviewers disagree: one finds plenty of room for side sleepers, the other found it only just wraps round at the shoulders.

Reviewers disagree on this.

Weight

From maker's figures 10/10

How much it adds to your pack. 10: The best you can buy for this.

Therm-a-Rest gives 440 g for the Regular, under 700 g.

Packed size

From maker's figures 10/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 10: The best you can buy for this.

Therm-a-Rest gives only two figures, 15 x 13 cm, so it's a stuff sack and we take the smaller one as the width: 3.1416 x 6.5 x 6.5 x 15 = 1,991 cm³, so 2.0 L, under 4 L.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Comfort to sleep in*

Reviewers' average 9/10

How comfy the shape, hood and fabric feel; not the temperature rating.

3 reviews on comfort to sleep in, e.g. "remarkably comfortable, with really soft fabric".

In short

Good for

  • Warm-weather and shoulder-season UK camps, with nights down to about 5 °C and a mat that fits the straps
  • Weight-saving backpackers who sleep fairly still and use an insulated mat

Strengths

  • 900-fill hydrophobic down in a box-baffled quilt
  • No zip or hood to snag, and easy to throw off on mild nights
  • Three reviewers found it comfortable to sleep in at its comfort figure

Weaknesses

  • A quilt has no hood and doesn't close round you: at 147 cm across the shoulders a reviewer of 173 cm only just wrapped it round himself, and drafts began below about 7 °C for another
  • The 0 °C in the name is the limit rating; the comfort rating is 5 °C, and Trailspace says it should be sold as a 5 °C quilt
  • One pad strap is supplied instead of two, so it seals poorly if you move around
  • Narrow foot box, and a collar snap that came loose in two reviews
  • Two of the four reviews (OutdoorGearLab and Trailspace) tested the 2019 version; Advnture and The Big Outside tested a version with the same fill and weight
