Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

7.6 cm thick.
Quietness
Estimate: only 2 reviews about noise (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 7/10How little it crinkles or squeaks when you turn over. 7: Better than most.
Much quieter than the older XTherm, but reviewers still hear some crinkle.
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack. 8: Clearly better than most.
440 g is the maker's figure for Regular and sits in the 400–549 g band. OutdoorGearLab weighed it at 454 g, still in the same band.

In short
Good for
- Winter and high-ground camps where you need R 7.3 without carrying a heavy mat
- Cold sleepers who want a thick mat for UK autumn to spring trips
- Long walks where the 440 g weight matters as much as the warmth
Strengths
- R 7.3 at 440 g: one of the best warmth-to-weight ratios you can buy
- Packs to about 23 x 11 cm, around the size of a 1-litre bottle
- 7.6 cm thick, with a thicker 70D bottom fabric than earlier XTherm models
- Much quieter than previous XTherms, though not silent
- WingLock valve inflates with the supplied pump sack and dumps air fast; repair kit included
Weaknesses
- Regular is narrow (51 cm) and tapered, with slippery fabric: some testers slid off, so wriggly sleepers may want the Regular Wide (540 g)
- Still crinkles a little when you move
- The thin 30D top and 70D base can still puncture on sharp ground: one reviewer found the base punctures fairly easily, so carry the patch kit
- Some edge collapse when you sit on the side (OutdoorGearLab)
- Overkill for summer: Countryfile says the XLite NXT is better value unless you camp in true winter
