Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 10/10How much it adds to your pack. 10: The best you can buy for this.
Terra Nova's key details give 210 g for the whole bivi, well under the 400 g line (its own description says 236 g and one shop says 214 g without the sack: all under 400 g).
Rain protection
From maker's figures 7/10How well the fabric keeps out heavy, long rain. 7: Better than most.
Terra Nova gives 10,000 mm hydrostatic head for both the 15D nylon upper and the floor, in the 10,000–14,999 mm band; the floor is over the 2,000 mm line.
Packed size
From maker's figures 10/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 10: The best you can buy for this.
Terra Nova gives 20 x 9 cm: 3.1416 x 4.5 x 4.5 x 20 = 1,272 cm³, about 1.3 L, under the 2.5 L line (one shop lists 21 x 6 cm).
In short
Good for
- Ultralight fastpacking, tarp set-ups and dry summer nights
- A backup or emergency sleeping bag cover on longer trips
- Anyone counting every gram who already carries a tarp
Strengths
- Very light at 210 g and packs to about 1.3 L, which Outdoors Magic called the lightest on test
- 10,000 mm hydrostatic head on the upper and the floor, with taped seams
- Zipped mesh screen at the head end for midges
- Drawcord hood and a half-moon foot box that tapers to save material
- Made by a UK tent maker with in-house repairs
Weaknesses
- Snug inside: little room for a pack or boots, and a wide mat or bulky bag will feel tight, especially at the foot
- No hoop or roof over the head and no way to fully close the head end, so Outdoors Magic does not recommend it in very bad weather
- The mesh screen has no support and flops onto your face
- Few independent reviews of the current model, so condensation, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
