Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 1/10How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 1: A real weak point.
Stanley's EU shop lists 598 g for 0.75 L: 797 g per litre, over 500 g/L. Its spec block also gives 89 x 89 x 298 mm; the page's description text is Adventure To-Go copy by mistake (that bottle is 512 g, 278 x 81 x 81 mm on Stanley UK). Trekitt and Jacksons of Old Arley list the same 598 g and size, and Jacksons' barcode matches the EU shop's Hydrangea.
Packed size (empty)
From maker's figures 1/10How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 1: A real weak point.
A rigid bottle does not shrink. Stanley's EU shop gives 298 mm tall and 89 mm across: 3.1416 x 4.45 x 4.45 x 29.8 = 1,854 cm³, so 1.85 L empty for 0.75 L held (2.47 per litre), in band 1 (1.8 and over).
In short
Good for
- Hot tea or coffee on winter days out, where the steel body takes knocks
- A flask kept in the car or at base camp, with the lid used as a cup
- Anyone who wants a tough steel bottle and will not carry it far: it is heavy for a hill pack
Strengths
- Stanley says it keeps drinks hot or cold for 20 hours, and iced for up to 4 days (its figure, never scored)
- Twist-and-pour stopper and a lid that doubles as a cup; leakproof design
- 18/8 stainless steel body with a lifetime warranty (Stanley UK warranty page, which covers its stainless steel vacuum products)
- Every part is dishwasher safe
Weaknesses
- 598 g for 0.75 L: 797 g per litre, about 6 times the weight per litre of a 132 g plastic 1 L bottle
- About 1.85 L of pack room when empty for 0.75 L held
- Stanley's UK shop does not list this size (it shows 0.59 and 0.94 L)
- No independent test found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
