Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Warmth

Estimate from maker's specs: maker's own comfort rating, not lab tested (one band lower) 8/10

How cold a night you can sleep comfortably through. 8: Clearly better than most.

Estimate from maker's specs

Room inside

Estimate from maker's specs: bag shape (fewer than 3 reviews about room) 3/10

How much room to move, bend your knees and sleep on your side. Roomier is comfier. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

No review we found says how roomy it is, so this is an estimate from the bag shape.

Weight

From maker's figures 1/10

How much it adds to your pack. 1: A real weak point.

1,950 g for the Standard sits in the 1,700 g+ band.

Packed size

From maker's figures 3/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

Snugpak gives only the pack size, 28 x 24 cm, so it is worked as a cylinder: 3.1416 x 12 x 12 x 28 = 12,667 cm3, so 12.7 L, just inside the 9-12.9 L band; it is near the top edge, and a slightly looser pack would put it in the 13 L+ band.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Comfort to sleep in*

Reviewers' average 8/10

How comfy the shape, hood and fabric feel; not the temperature rating.

4 reviews on comfort, e.g. "almost like a brushed cotton but it doesn't feel cold to the skin like some sleeping bags do".

Zip*

Reviewers' average 5/10

How smoothly the zip runs without snagging.

4 reviews on the zip, e.g. "we've not had any issues with snagging on these".

Reviewers disagree on this.

In short

Good for

  • Cold wild camps in a hardy synthetic bag where weight does not matter, such as car-supported or canoe trips
  • Campers who want a bag that copes with damp and rough use, and who like room to move

Strengths

  • Synthetic Softie insulation and a water-resistant shell, so it keeps working when damp and needs no careful storage
  • Side panel that zips out to add width at the chest and knees, and foot clips that shorten the bag
  • Owners in videos found it very warm, and one used it down to about -7 °C
  • Wide, 75 cm chest and 220 cm long, so it suits taller and bigger campers

Weaknesses

  • Heavy: 1,950 g, in the heaviest weight band we score
  • Bulky: about 12.7 L packed, even in its compression sack
  • No ISO or EN comfort rating, so the -10 °C comfort figure can't be compared with other bags (one cold-sleeping reviewer found it fair, but no test is shown)
  • The large zip baffle can get in the way: one reviewer could not zip it up from inside, and another had the zip snag
  • Short on independent evidence: we found no magazine test, so damp performance and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
