Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Snugpak gives 300 g for the standard size (320 g for the extra long), under the 400 g line.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 5/10How well the fabric keeps out heavy, long rain. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Snugpak gives 5,000 mm hydrostatic head with taped seams for its Paratex Dry nylon, at the bottom of the 5,000–9,999 mm band. It gives one figure for the whole bag, which counts for the floor too, so nothing is taken off.
Packed size
From maker's figures 10/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 10: The best you can buy for this.
Snugpak gives 13 cm x 10 cm. Read as a stuff sack (length x diameter): 3.1416 x 5 x 5 x 13 = 1,021 cm³, about 1.0 L, under the 2.5 L line.
In short
Good for
- A light waterproof cover for a sleeping bag under a tarp, or an emergency shelter, at 300 g
- Dry or showery summer nights in the open
Strengths
- 300 g and about 1.0 L packed (13 cm x 10 cm): light and small
- 5,000 mm hydrostatic head with taped seams
- Simple mummy shape with a hood, supplied with a stuff sack
Weaknesses
- Only 5,000 mm hydrostatic head, half that of 10,000 mm bivvies
- No zip listed or shown: you slide your sleeping bag in, and Snugpak warns never to seal it fully because the fabric is not air permeable
- Snugpak's page gives no length (shops give 228–230 cm)
- No independent hands-on report of the current bag found, so condensation, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
