Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 9/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.

920 g (tent, pegs, guylines, 2 short alu poles and bags; your own trekking poles not included) is under 1.0 kg.

Rain protection

From maker's figures 7/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 7: Better than most.

Flysheet 2,000 mm sits in the 2,000–2,999 band; floor is 3,000 mm so no point is taken off.

Wind

From reviews 7/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 7: Better than most.

Advnture rates it better in wind than its price suggests, but I-Trekkings only tested to about 40 km/h and warns the straight back wall is weak in wind plus rain, and several Decathlon buyers report loud flapping or the fly blowing against the inner. Maker's own 70 km/h tunnel test is not counted.

Space

From maker's figures 5/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Decathlon UK publishes a 225 cm bedroom tapering from 60 cm at the head to 50 cm at the feet: 225 x 55 (average width) = 12,375 cm², or 1.24 m² for one person, in the 1.15–1.34 band.

Packed size

From maker's figures 9/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.

Packs to 38 x 10 x 10 cm (two sides equal, so a stuff-sack cylinder): 3.1416 x 5 x 5 x 38 = 2,985 cm³, so about 3.0 L (Decathlon quotes a 2.5 L cover), under 4 L.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Pitching*

Reviewers' average 8/10

How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.

4 reviews on pitching, e.g. "Easy to pitch, a cinch to pull drum tight and performing well in wind or rain".

Condensation*

Estimate: only 2 reviews about condensation (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How dry it stays inside on still, damp nights; higher is drier.

2 reviews on condensation, e.g. "il m’est arrivé à deux reprises d’avoir un tapis de sol légèrement humide à l’intérieur".

Durability*

Estimate: only 1 review about durability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How well the fabric, poles, zips and seams hold up over seasons of use.

1 review on durability, e.g. "après deux utilisations voit sa fermeture se casser".

In short

Good for

  • Solo walkers who already carry trekking poles and want a very light, very small shelter on a budget
  • Spring to autumn wild camps and long-distance trails in mild weather
  • Tall walkers: the 225 cm inner is longer than most one-person tents

Strengths

  • Inner and flysheet are joined, so it goes up in one go, even in rain
  • Roomy porch for a rucksack and boots, and you can sit up inside
  • Taped seams and a 3,000 mm floor; spare flysheet and inner are sold separately if something tears
  • Decathlon buyers report 100+ nights (one 187 nights over 5,000 km) with taped seams intact

Weaknesses

  • Needs two trekking poles to stand up; it is not free-standing and needs pegs in soft enough ground
  • Narrow inside (60 cm at the head, 50 cm at the feet): wide mats and broad shoulders will be tight
  • Straight back wall can take wind-driven rain; if the foot guyline is slack the flysheet touches the inner and it can get wet (two reviewers and two buyers report this)
  • Some Decathlon buyers say the fly flaps loudly in wind and blows against the inner
  • Single one-way porch zip, and the all-white fabric is easy to spot, dirties and does not block bright moonlight
  • Three-season only; Decathlon warns against leaving it in strong sun, and Advnture found it drew lots of insects when lit inside
  • No independent long-term test: durability rests on two short tests and Decathlon buyers, two of whom say the floor is thin and use an extra groundsheet
