Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 5/10How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
SilverAnt lists 129 g for 0.5 L on its own site: 258 g per litre, in the 180–299 g/L band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 136 g (272 g per litre, same band; 161 g with the sleeve).
Packed size (empty)
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 4: A bit below average.
A rigid bottle does not shrink, so we draw it as a cylinder from its height and width. SilverAnt gives 182 mm tall and 68 mm across: 3.1416 x 3.4 x 3.4 x 18.2 = 661 cm³, so 0.66 L empty for 0.5 L held (1.32 per litre), in the 1.3–1.79 band, just inside the 1.3 line.
In short
Good for
- Short day walks where a light, single-wall bottle is enough
- Boiling water on a stove in the bottle itself (SilverAnt says you can boil water in it on a stove; keep the lid off the stove)
- Anyone who wants a bottle with no coating or plastic liner and a carabiner clip on the lid
Strengths
- 129 g for 0.5 L: 258 g per litre, a middle weight band for a rigid bottle
- Uncoated titanium that does not rust or add taste (SilverAnt)
- Clip-cap lid with a silicone seal that takes a carabiner (SilverAnt)
- Thermal sleeve in the box and a lifetime warranty (SilverAnt)
- 46 mm mouth for filling from a stream (SilverAnt)
Weaknesses
- Single wall, so it does not keep a drink hot or cold; the sleeve helps a little
- 0.66 L of pack room for 0.5 L of drink
- SilverAnt says it can no longer supply the plastic lid, so the bottle ships with the titanium lid only
- Only one UK shop found, with one unit listed; SilverAnt's own UK site shows no price we could confirm, and its US site sells in dollars
- No independent test of this size was found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
