Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 4/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 4: A bit below average.
Maker's figure, 250 lumens in Max mode (1.5 hours) with no test standard stated: the 150-299 band (maker's figure).
Runtime
From maker's figures 3/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
The 100-lumen Med mode runs 2.5 hours on the built-in 700 mAh battery (maker's figure), in the 2-3.9 h band; Max 250 lumens lasts 1.5 hours. The 10-lumen Min mode runs 20 hours but is under 80 lumens, so it doesn't count. Outdoors Magic timed 2 h 33 min on Med and 1 h 22 min on Max.
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 8: Clearly better than most.
Silva lists 53 g with the battery, headband and rear light (44 g for the Smini Lite without the rear light), in the 50-89 g band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear's table says 45 g, but its text says 53 g.
In short
Good for
- A backup or ultralight torch for night runs, dog walks and tent jobs at 53 g
- Walkers who want a rear safety light on the same lamp for road walking
- Long-distance hikers who only need a small lamp for camp
Strengths
- 53 g including the headband and the detachable red rear safety light
- Single button works with gloves, with a lock and a 4-step battery indicator
- Spot and flood beams combined, with a red front light
- Rechargeable by USB-C; the lamp tilts 90 degrees
- Modular and repairable, with a 5-year warranty (2 years on the battery)
Weaknesses
- 250 lumens lasts only 1.5 hours, and Outdoors Magic and UKClimbing both found Max short
- IPX5 only: it handles rain but is not rated for being dipped in water
- 700 mAh built-in battery: no AAA backup, and the USB-C cable is not included
- UKClimbing found the real range nearer 50 m than the claimed 80 m
- UKClimbing says it is a backup light, not your main one for the hills
