Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Waterproof build

From maker's figures 6/10

How well its build keeps water out, from the published seams, closure and submersion claim. 6: A bit better than average.

Double-stitched, tape-sealed seams and a hypalon roll-top, with a waterproof, air-permeable base. The body fabric has a 10,000 mm hydrostatic head, but there is no submersion claim: the 3 band.

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 5/10

How much it adds to your pack for the space it protects. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

160 g for 20 L is 8.0 g/L, in the 6.0–8.4 g/L band (Sea to Summit's figure; Ultralight Outdoor Gear gives the same 160 g).

In short

Good for

  • Compressing a bulky synthetic or winter sleeping bag inside a rucksack and keeping it dry
  • Trips where the pack may sit wet for days
  • Internal use: not submersible and not for hanging outside a pack

Strengths

  • Four compression straps squeeze bulky kit down evenly
  • Waterproof, air-permeable base lets air out without a purge valve
  • Sturdier recycled 70D nylon body with a 10,000 mm hydrostatic head
  • Double-stitched, tape-sealed seams and a white interior
  • Webbing handle on the oval base, and a replaceable Field Repair Buckle
  • Sizes from 5 to 35 L

Weaknesses

  • 160 g for 20 L (8.0 g/L), nearly three times the weight of a plain Ultra-Sil dry bag
  • Not submersible
  • No hands-on reviews of the current bag at 20 L were found, so durability and ease scores are missing
