Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 6/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 6: A bit better than average.

Salewa's minimum weight is 1.70 kg (1.98 kg maximum with everything), in the 1.5–1.99 kg band.

Rain protection

From maker's figures 8/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.

Fly 3,000 mm is in the 3,000 mm+ band and the floor is 10,000 mm, so no point comes off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.

Wind

Estimate: only 2 reviews about wind (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 8: Clearly better than most.

Two independent reviewers report strong-wind stability, with secure guying important. Globe Trekker supports this with personal experience; the quoted 90 km/h laboratory certification remains a manufacturer claim rather than a separate source.

Space

From maker's figures 6/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 6: A bit better than average.

Inner floor 120 x 210 cm = 2.52 m² ÷ 2 people = 1.26 m² each, in the 1.15–1.34 band. Salewa quotes 3 m² for the inner tent, which does not fit its own 120 cm width, so we banded the smaller figure.

Packed size

From maker's figures 4/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.

Packs to 40 x 19 cm: 3.1416 x 9.5 x 9.5 x 40 = 11,341 cm³, so 11.3 L, in the 10–14.9 L band.

In short

Good for

  • Two people on three-season UK hill camps who want a light freestanding tent
  • Rocky or shallow ground where pegs do not hold, since it stands without them
  • Weight-conscious pairs splitting about 0.85 kg each

Strengths

  • 1.70 kg minimum for a freestanding two-person double-wall tent
  • Fly 3,000 mm and floor 10,000 mm
  • Semi-geodesic three-pole frame that stands without pegs; Salewa says it passed a 90 km/h wind-tunnel test
  • 10 aluminium Y-pegs, reflective Dyneema guylines and a repair kit in the box
  • Integrated vestibule, zipped rear vent panel you can work from inside or outside

Weaknesses

  • Only 1.26 m² of inner floor per person, with the inner 120 cm wide, so two regular mats leave no spare room
  • One door and one porch, so one person climbs over the other
  • 11.3 L packed, bigger than most light tents of this weight
  • We found no independent test of this tent, so wind and pitching claims here are Salewa's, not reviewers'
