Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 3/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
Salewa's minimum weight of 2,400 g (2.72 kg maximum) is in the 2.0–2.69 kg band. Shared by two it is 1.2 kg each.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 5/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Flysheet 1,500 mm is in the 1,500–1,999 mm band, and the 3,000 mm floor is over 2,000 mm so no point comes off.
Wind
Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.
Space
Estimate from maker's specs: inner floor area per person 7/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 7: Better than most.
Estimate from maker's specs
Packed size
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.
Packs to 49 x 17 cm (length x diameter), a roll: π x 8.5 cm x 8.5 cm x 49 cm = 11,120 cm³, so 11.1 L, in the 10–14.9 L band.
In short
Good for
- Two people on a low budget who want a double-wall dome for three-season walking and camping
- Camps where the weight can be split between two packs (about 1.2 kg each)
- Trips with gear to store: two doors, each with its own porch
Strengths
- Two doors and two porches, big enough to store kit or cook in (Salewa)
- A 3,000 mm floor and 112 cm inner height
- Rated 'good' by the Kassensturz/K-Tipp lab test: waterproof and robust, and easy to pitch
- Large mesh panels in the inner, for airflow
Weaknesses
- Heavy for two-person backpacking: 2,400 g minimum, 2.72 kg maximum
- A 1,500 mm flysheet is only two bands below the top for rain protection
- Packs to 11.1 L, a bulky roll
- Not freestanding according to Alpinetrek, and Salewa says it needs two guylines
- An older design with PU fabric and some fibreglass in the poles, and Salewa gives no floor area
- Kassensturz/K-Tipp found taking it down a little complicated and called its space for two adults only just enough
- Only one independent source found, so wind, space, pitching and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- The test sample's version isn't stated in the 2022 lab test, though Salewa's specs for the Latitude II haven't changed
- Seasons (3), the inner size and 'not freestanding' come from Alpinetrek's table: Salewa's own page doesn't give them
