Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Robens gives 45 g, under the 60 g line.
Packed size
From maker's figures 9/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Robens gives the pack size as 3.7 x 5.2 cm and the size, 8.5 x 6.8 cm (diameter x height), is the stove opened out, so 3.7 x 5.2 cm is the folded stove: worked as a roll 5.2 cm long and 3.7 cm across, 3.14 x 1.85 x 1.85 x 5.2 = 56 cm3, about 0.056 L; as a box, 3.7 x 3.7 x 5.2 = 71 cm3, about 0.07 L. Both are under the 0.08 L line.
Boil speed (still air)
From maker's figures 2/10How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in still air. Wind slows every stove: see Wind performance. 2: A weak point.
Robens gives 8 min 34 s (514 s) for 1 litre, in the 480 s and over band. Alpinetrek's listing says 8 minutes (480 s), also band 1. Some other shops give about 4 minutes, but that is not Robens's figure.
Wind performance
Estimate from maker's specs: windshield in the box 3/10How well it keeps boiling in a breeze, as sold, without an extra windshield. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

In short
Good for
- Boiling water for one in a mug or small pot on short, sheltered trips
- Weight-conscious walkers who want a backup stove that fits in a mug with a 100 g canister
- Warm-weather camping with a windshield carried separately
Strengths
- 45 g and about 0.06 L packed (5.2 x 3.7 cm), with a carry bag in the box
- Titanium body and fold-out pot supports
- Fits a 100 g canister inside a 650 ml mug (The Great Outdoors)
- Robens quotes 2,600 W output
Weaknesses
- Robens's boil time is 8 min 34 s for 1 litre, the slowest band
- Exposed burner: The Great Outdoors says it is ineffective above a light breeze and that a windshield is essential (never wrap one round the canister)
- Short pot supports, so it is less steady with pots wider than a small mug
- No regulator: power falls as the canister empties or cools, and The Great Outdoors would not use it below freezing
- No igniter, and it is noisy (The Great Outdoors)
