Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: 200 g/m² insulation 8/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 8: Clearly better than most.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 5/10How much they add to your pack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
145 g for the pair, Rab's figure (Cotswold Outdoor repeats it): the 110-179 g band. An older listing's 152 g is in the same band, so the figures don't change the score.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 10/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 10: The best you can buy for this.
A waterproof Porelle Dry insert between the outer and lining (Rab). Porelle is a branded membrane made by an outside membrane maker, PIL Membranes Ltd, which lists Porelle inserts as made for gloves and hats on its own site: the 'sealed insert from a named membrane maker' band.
In short
Good for
- Cold, wet hill walking days when you want a waterproof glove with some insulation
- Winter walks, with a drawcord cuff you can pull tight with one hand
- A step up from a soft-shell glove when rain is forecast
Strengths
- Waterproof insert between the outer and lining
- 200 g/m2 Stratus synthetic insulation, which Rab says keeps its warmth when damp
- Reinforced, textured palm and a single-hand drawcord cuff
- 145 g a pair
Weaknesses
- No touchscreen fingertips claimed
- The Porelle Dry insert is a lesser-known name than GORE-TEX, so we score it a 4 until its maker is confirmed
- Our judgement scores are blank: no independent test of this version
- Older Backcountry shop reviews found it a little bulky and the cuff wide
