Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: fleece or softshell glove 3/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 6/10How much they add to your pack. 6: A bit better than average.
129 g for the pair, Rab's figure for the current design (Tiso repeats it): the 110-179 g band. An older design that GO Outdoors sells is listed at 110 g, the same band, so the figures don't change the score.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 2/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 2: A weak point.
Rab's current Ridge is a Thermic stretch fleece glove with a leather palm and makes no wind or water claim, so the 'no claim' band. The older Ridge sold by GO Outdoors and Cotswold was described as wind and water resistant: not this design.
In short

- Everyday winter warmth at 129 g a pair
- Using a phone or GPS with the gloves on
Strengths

- Quilted leather palm for grip on walking poles
- Touchscreen index finger and thumb
Weaknesses

- The older Ridge (wind and water resistant outer, 110 g) is still sold by some shops: check the description before buying
- Our judgement scores are blank: no independent test of the current glove
