Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: heavy fleece 5/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much they add to your pack. 8: Clearly better than most.
60 g for the pair in UK men's size M, the figure Rab publishes (GO Outdoors and Outside repeat it): 60 g is the lowest value of the 60-109 g band (under 60 g is the top band), so it is in the 4 band.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 2/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 2: A weak point.
Rab makes no wind or water claim: a Polartec Power Stretch Pro stretch fabric with a silicone palm print, no membrane and no stated water-repellent finish, so the 'no claim' band. Advnture also says it isn't water-resistant.
In short
Good for
- A light stand-alone glove for cool, dry hill days in autumn and spring
- Walking with poles: the silicone palm print gives a firm hold
- Using a phone or GPS with the gloves on: conductive print on the index finger and thumb
- Under a shell glove: Rab says it works as a liner, though Advnture found the tacky palm slides badly under other gloves
Strengths
- 60 g for the pair
- Polartec Power Stretch Pro fabric, a close fit with a low-bulk Lycra-edged cuff
- Silicone grip print on the palm and conductive print on the index finger and thumb
Weaknesses
- No wind or water protection: Advnture says it suits cold, dry weather only
- Advnture reports the fabric snags relatively easily and tore a small hole in the palm
- Advnture found the tacky palm a poor fit as a liner under other gloves
- Only one independent review found, so our judgement scores are blank
