Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 3/10

How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

Primus lists 285 g for 0.6 L on its UK and EU pages: 475 g per litre, in the 300–499 g/L band, close to the line. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 292 g (487 g per litre, same band).

Packed size (empty)

From maker's figures 3/10

How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

A rigid bottle does not shrink, so we draw it as a cylinder from its height and width. Primus gives 244 mm tall and 72 mm across: 3.1416 x 3.6 x 3.6 x 24.4 = 993 cm³, so 0.99 L empty for 0.6 L held (1.66 per litre), in the 1.3–1.79 band.

In short

Good for

  • Day walks that need a slim insulated bottle that fits a side pocket
  • A hot drink at a cold camp or a cold drink on a hot day
  • Anyone who wants a narrow 44 mm mouth to drink from directly

Strengths

  • 285 g for 0.6 L
  • Primus quotes 15 hours hot and 37 hours cold (its page gives no test conditions; Mountain Review reports them as EN 12546-1 laboratory figures)
  • Slim 72 mm body fits most pack side pockets and cup holders
  • Silicone sleeve for grip, with a cylindrical body that takes repair tape (Primus)
  • Takes Primus Tufa straw and sport caps (sold separately)
  • PFAS free and dishwasher safe (Primus)

Weaknesses

  • 285 g for 0.6 L: 475 g per litre, over 7 times the weight per litre of the 63 g per litre Cnoc ThruBottle
  • 0.99 L of pack room for 0.6 L of drink
  • 44 mm opening is narrow for cleaning and ice
  • Mountain Review lists small capacity and fragility if mishandled
  • Only one independent review found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
