In short

Good for

  • A first or spare head torch for camp chores, reading in the tent and night walks on easy paths
  • Hikers who want AAA batteries from any shop now, with USB charging later via the separate CORE battery
  • Wild campers who share a tent: continuous red light at 2 lumens for 60 hours

Strengths

  • 100 lumens lasts 12 hours on the three AAA it comes with, and the 7-lumen low mode lasts 110 hours
  • Hybrid design: works on AAA out of the box or on the CORE rechargeable battery (sold separately, 450 lumens)
  • Single button, a lock to stop it switching on in a pack, a battery indicator and a red light
  • 5-year maker's warranty on the lamp

Weaknesses

  • IPX4 only (splash-proof), so not for heavy rain or submersion
  • Flood beam only: 70 m reach and no spot mode for picking out distant landmarks
  • Only three white levels with no dimming, and the step from 7 to 100 lumens is large (Space found it dazzled other walkers)
