Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 6/10How much it adds to your pack. 6: A bit better than average.
Patagonia's own page gives 400 g, with no size, which is in the 370-469 g band (archived copy of its page, 8 Jul 2024; the live site was stuck in a queue on 2026-10-19 and 2026-10-20). Tiso prints the same 400 g, Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 384 g for size M, and CleverHiker weighed 388 g, all in that band. OutdoorGearLab weighed 360 g, which is in the 280-369 g band, and Advnture's XL weighed 438 g. We band the maker's figure and say when a tester found another.
Rain protection
Estimate from maker's specs: hydrostatic head figure 8/10How well the fabric and seams keep out heavy, long rain, when new. 8: Clearly better than most.

Warmth

In short
Good for
- Everyday UK hillwalking and day hikes in a tough 3-layer shell
- Dog walking, commuting and travel as well as hills
Strengths
- 3-layer build with a 50D recycled nylon face at about 400 g
- Pit zips and a fleece-lined neck
- Stuffs into its own pocket
- PFAS-free fabric and DWR
- Women's version exists (Torrentshell 3L Women's)
Weaknesses
- Patagonia publishes no waterproof figure for H2No and doesn't say its seams are taped, so rain protection is an estimate, not a reviewed score
- Stiff, crinkly fabric (OutdoorGearLab, Switchback Travel)
- Breathability only average despite the pit zips (OutdoorGearLab, Advnture, CleverHiker)
- Hand pockets sit under a rucksack hipbelt and there is no chest pocket (Advnture, Outdoors Magic)
- Advnture and Outdoors Magic say it can wet out in torrential rain
