Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 2/10How much they add to your pack. 2: A weak point.
Páramo lists 481 g without naming a size (its page data gives the same figure for every size), in the 470 g+ band 1. Advnture gives 481 g for men's M and Live for the Outdoors 480 g for men's L, so no size is likely to reach band 2 (under 470 g).
Rain protection
Estimate from maker's specs: waterproof fabric the maker names (no waterproof figure published) 5/10How well the fabric and seams keep out heavy, long rain, when new. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Estimate from maker's specs. Live for the Outdoors describes the fabric and pump liner as two layers.
In short
Good for
- Hillwalking and trekking in changeable, cool and wet UK weather, worn all day with no separate overtrousers
- Cold wet days and winter hill days where a lined, vented trouser is wanted
- Walkers who want a trouser that can be repaired and re-proofed at home
Strengths
- Membrane-free Nikwax Analogy fabric: reviewers find it very breathable and quick to dry
- Three-quarter-length twin leg zips with internal storm flaps with poppers, for venting
- Double layer of pump liner on the seat, thigh and knees, plus articulated knees and gusset
- Ankle volume adjusters, two zipped hip pockets, belt loops and an elasticated waist
- Made without intentionally added PFAS (Páramo)
Weaknesses
- Páramo gives no hydrostatic head figure or seam statement, so rain protection is an estimate, not a reviewed score
- Reviewers: polyester is less tough than nylon, one crotch seam failed within weeks (Advnture), no built-in stretch, and not for scrambling or mountaineering
- Warm in summer and in high humidity (Section Hiker); a clingy, swishy feel at first
