Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 7/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 7: Better than most.

OEX's 'weight without bag and accessories' of 1,335 g is in the 1.0–1.49 kg band; 1.5 kg total packed weight.

Rain protection

From maker's figures 5/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Fly 1,500 mm is in the 1,500–1,999 band, band 3 (5 out of 10); the 3,000 mm floor is over 2,000 mm so there is no deduction. It is sil/nylon, which can shed rain better than its HH figure suggests, but the seams are sealed by you (see weaknesses).

Wind

Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.

Space

From maker's figures 7/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 7: Better than most.

OEX's inner of 225 x 130 cm is 29,250 cm², or 2.93 m²; ÷ 2 people = 1.46 m² each, in the 1.35–1.59 band. This treats the inner as a rectangle (OEX gives one width), so a domed or tapered floor may be a little smaller.

Packed size

From maker's figures 5/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

OEX gives 49 x 20 x 9 cm as a box: 49 x 20 x 9 = 8,820 cm³, so 8.82 L, in the 7–9.9 L band. If it packs as an oval roll it would be smaller.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Pitching*

Estimate: only 2 reviews about pitching (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.

2 reviews on pitching, e.g. "Pitches really really easily.".

Reviewers disagree on this.

Condensation*

Estimate: only 1 review about condensation (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10

How dry it stays inside on still, damp nights; higher is drier.

1 review on condensation, e.g. "Didn't really have any condensation issues.".

In short

Good for

  • Two people sharing a light tent on summer and mild spring or autumn trips
  • Hot nights: the inner can be pitched on its own as a mesh shelter

Strengths

  • 1,335 g without the bag and accessories, for a two-person tent, and a free-standing dome
  • The only tent in OEX's Ultralite range that can be pitched inner-only, to cut weight and keep cool in warm weather
  • Two doors with a small porch each side, so neither person climbs over the other
  • All-in-one skeleton pole and YKK zips, which OEX says makes it quick to pitch

Weaknesses

  • Fly is only 1,500 mm and the fabric is very thin 10D; we found no durability testing
  • Sil/nylon fly seams are not taped: OEX supplies a tube of silicone sealer for you to seal them
  • Only two reviewers have pitched it in wind, and none for long, so wind, pitching and durability can't be scored yet
