Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 9/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.

Nemo's minimum weight of 948 g is under 1.0 kg (1.1 kg packed). Reviewers weighed it at 964 g (SectionHiker) and 1.15 kg with everything in the sack (OutdoorGearLab).

Rain protection

From maker's figures 1/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 1: A real weak point.

Fly 1,200 mm is the 1,200–1,499 band, band 2 (3 out of 10), then one band lower because the floor is only 1,500 mm, under 2,000 mm. Reviewers stayed dry in long rain, but the fabric is thin.

Wind

From reviews 6/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 6: A bit better than average.

Four of five reviewers rate it fine for normal three-season wind with the foot end staked and guyed, but the single pole flexes in gusts and the fly is hard to pull taut; SectionHiker rates it for sheltered sites only (2).

Space

From maker's figures 6/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 6: A bit better than average.

Nemo's 2.6 m² inner floor ÷ 2 people = 1.3 m² each, in the 1.15–1.34 band; the inner tapers from 130 cm at the head to 109 cm at the foot, so two wide mats do not fit side by side.

Packed size

From maker's figures 8/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 8: Clearly better than most.

Packs to 32 x 19 x 8.5 cm: 32 x 19 x 8.5 = 5,168 cm³, so 5.17 L, in the 4–6.9 L band.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Pitching*

Reviewers' average 8/10

How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.

7 reviews on pitching, e.g. "For typical campsites, one person can pitch it without much fuss.".

Reviewers disagree on this.

Condensation*

Reviewers' average 7/10

How dry it stays inside on still, damp nights; higher is drier.

3 reviews on condensation, e.g. "prevented condensation even on calm nights just above freezing".

Reviewers disagree on this.

Durability*

Reviewers' average 7/10

How well the fabric, poles, zips and seams hold up over seasons of use.

3 reviews on durability, e.g. "It is more durable than its low weight might imply.".

Reviewers disagree on this.

In short

Good for

  • One person who wants plenty of room for under 1 kg, or a couple who accept a snug fit
  • Summer and shoulder-season wild camps in sheltered spots, in valleys or below the tree line
  • Walkers short of pack space: it packs to 32 x 19 x 8.5 cm with pole sections of about 30 cm

Strengths

  • Very light for a double-wall tent with two doors and two vestibules: 948 g minimum weight
  • Packs small, and the Divvy Cube sack lets two people split the tent between them
  • One colour-coded hubbed pole makes for a quick, simple pitch that one person can do alone
  • Mesh inner with good airflow, and solid panels low down that keep draughts off you
  • OSMO fly fabric is made to stretch less than silicone nylon when wet, which CleverHiker found helps the fly stay off the inner

Weaknesses

  • Tight for two: the inner narrows from 130 cm to 109 cm wide and OutdoorGearLab measured 104 cm at the narrowest, so two wide mats do not fit
  • Low waterproof ratings (fly 1,200 mm, floor 1,500 mm); SectionHiker would pick something heavier and more waterproof above the tree line or on exposed ground
  • Semi-freestanding: the foot end must be staked, which is hard on rock, and there is no fly-only pitch
  • The single pole flexes in gusts and the fly is hard to get taut in wind, so it is a three-season tent for sheltered pitches, not a storm tent
  • Heavier in real life than the 948 g claim: OutdoorGearLab weighed 1.15 kg with everything in the sack
  • No opening roof vent: the Outdoor Empire testers found more condensation than in Nemo's other tents
  • 98 cm peak height: a tester about 185 cm tall just touched the roof when sitting up
