Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 7/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 7: Better than most.
NEBO's UK page gives 600 lumens for the spot and 180° flood together, and 1.5 hours at that output, so it is held, not a burst. NEBO states no test standard, so this is the brand's own figure, capped at the 4 band: the 500–799 band. The spot alone is 500 lumens. NEBO's runtimes are for the rechargeable pack.
Runtime
From maker's figures 6/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 6: A bit better than average.
The longest time NEBO gives for a mode of 80 lumens or more is the spot at 150 lumens for 5.5 hours: the 4–5.9 h band. The 180° flood at 100 lumens runs 4 hours, and the 600-lumen mode 1.5 hours (Advnture's test ran 3.5 hours at the top setting). The times are for the rechargeable pack; NEBO gives none for AAA cells.
Weight
From maker's figures 4/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 4: A bit below average.
NEBO's UK page lists 124 g with the battery pack, in the 110–149 g band. Advnture also weighed 124 g; Ultralight Outdoor Gear and The Great Outdoors give 121 g, which is the same band.
In short
Good for
- Camp chores and reading: the 180° flood strip lights a wide area without glare
- Night walks on uneven ground where a wide field of view helps, such as boulder fields and river crossings
Strengths
- 600 lumens with a spot and a 180° flood that can be used together or on their own, 6 modes in all
- Rear battery balances the weight, and the soft headband liner stays put without bouncing
- Spot reaches 96 m (NEBO's figure)
- USB-C rechargeable, and NEBO says it also runs on 3 AAA alkaline batteries as a back-up (T3 and The Great Outdoors agree); NEBO gives no runtimes for AAA
- IPX4 and a battery-level indicator; 2-year NEBO warranty (Advnture)
Weaknesses
- 124 g, heavier than most head torches in its class
- No red light, so no night-vision-friendly mode
- The spot tilt is fixed at 20°, and the buttons sit on the battery pack at the back, awkward under a hood (The Great Outdoors)
- The top mode is 600 lumens for 1.5 hours (Advnture got 3.5 hours); the longest run at 80 lumens or more is 5.5 hours
- IPX4: splash-proof only. The lumen figures are NEBO's own, with no test standard stated
- One-size band is too big for children (Advnture, The Great Outdoors)
