Weight for its size
From maker's figures 4/10How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 4: A bit below average.
MSR's pages disagree with themselves: they give 0.61 kg for the set, but the ounce figure beside it converts to about 595 g. We band the heavier 610 g: with the 2 L pot that is 305 g per litre, in the 300-449 g/L band (595 g would be 298 g per litre, a 3). MSR publishes no volume for the two mugs, so capacity is the pot alone (the mugs would need to add only about 0.04 L together to lift the set into the 3 band). Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 620 g and Outside 601 g.
Cooking and ease of use

In short
Good for
- Two walkers who share one pot and want a mug and bowl each in a single nested set
- One-pot meals for two, such as pasta, rice and soup
- Fitting a PocketRocket or MicroRocket stove inside a mug (MSR)
Strengths
- Tall 2 L pot sized for two people (MSR)
- Two mugs, two bowls and the pot nest into one set about 14.5 cm across and 15.5 cm high (MSR)
- Hard-anodised aluminium spreads heat evenly (MSR)
- Clear strainer lid and a folding, locking handle that keeps the set together
Weaknesses
- 305 g per litre by the 2 L pot, a weak result for weight against its size
- Shops disagree on the coating: three print non-stick (copied from the earlier version) while MSR's current page doesn't, so we list no non-stick
- MSR's Feb 2024 recall covers the earlier part number (06897): UK shop listings carry that number, so check which version you get MSR's recall page offers a free replacement handle for the earlier part (in Europe, by email to [email protected])
