Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
MSR's page gives 126 g (0.13 kg) and 0.9 L. 126 g for 0.9 L = 140 g per litre, under 150 g/L. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 128 g, Advnture and Bikepacking.com about 130 g and one video weighed 125 g: all in the same band.
Cooking and ease of use
From reviews 8/10How evenly it heats, whether food sticks or burns, cleaning, and the handles, lid, pouring and steadiness on a small stove. 8: Clearly better than most.
Four hands-on sources like it. Advnture (4; 4.5 out of 5 overall) praises the drip-free spout, easy cleaning and even heat after two weeks in Scotland. Bikepacking.com (4) likes the volume marks, handle sleeves and lid hanger but saw no better pour than the old model. Treeline Review (4) names it its best titanium upgrade for the lid that stays on while pouring and the pour control; its dislikes are the price, handles that aren't insulated and measure lines that are hard to read. Matt bigmonster's 2024 comparison (4, bought it) likes the better spout, silicone handle covers and easier nesting of a canister, but he didn't cook in it. Ultralight Outdoor Gear's own on-trail review is shop text and doesn't count.
In short
Good for
- Solo walkers who want a light titanium pot with a spout for tea, coffee and meals
- Nesting a small gas canister and stove inside (MSR says a 110 g canister and Pocket Rocket fit; Bikepacking.com agrees)
- Measuring water with the volume marks stamped inside
Strengths
- 126 g for 0.9 L, 140 g per litre
- Internal volume marks, a spout that pours without dripping (Advnture) and a lid that stays put while pouring (Treeline Review)
- Silicone-coated folding handles and a lid hanger that keeps the lid off the ground
- Nests with the MSR 1.4 L Titan kettle (Bikepacking.com)
- Titanium, so there is no coating to wear off
Weaknesses
- Titanium can have hot spots, so it suits boiling better than cooking temperature-sensitive food (Advnture)
- Taller than the older 850 ml model, so a tighter fit in narrow bags (Bikepacking.com)
