Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 8/10

How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 8: Clearly better than most.

MSR's pages give 0.21 kg and 1.3 L, and the ounce figure beside it converts to about 213 g. We band the heavier 213 g: 213 g for 1.3 L = 164 g per litre, in the 150-219 g/L band (210 g would be 162 g per litre, also a 4). Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 212 g and Needle Sports 206 g, both band 4 as well.

In short

Good for

  • One person who wants to cook real meals, not just boil water, without carrying a heavy pot
  • Sticky foods such as porridge, eggs and pasta that cling to uncoated pots
  • Anyone avoiding PTFE and PFOA coatings (MSR)

Strengths

  • 1.3 L for 213 g, 164 g per litre
  • Fusion ceramic nonstick coating, PTFE- and PFOA-free (MSR)
  • Insulated, detachable Talon handle that also folds over to hold the lid on (Treeline Review; Ultralight Outdoor Gear)
  • Strainer lid with vent holes to watch the boil (Ultralight Outdoor Gear)
  • Aluminium spreads heat more evenly than titanium (Treeline Review)

Weaknesses

  • No pouring spout (Treeline Review)
  • Ceramic can scratch: pad it before packing a canister or stove inside (Ultralight Outdoor Gear)
  • Plastic parts mean MSR doesn't recommend it over an open fire (MSR)
