Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: heavy fleece 5/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much they add to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
50 g for the pair, Mountain Equipment's figure on its product page (size not stated): the under-60 g band.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 2/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 2: A weak point.
A stretch fleece glove. Mountain Equipment describes the fabric as giving 'warmth and wind resistance' but makes no windproof, water-repellent or waterproof claim. The method's 3 needs a windproof soft shell or a water-repellent finish and wind resistance alone is not that, so it is the 'no claim' band for fleece, the same call as the Mountain Equipment Touch Screen Grip Glove.
In short
Good for
- A light backup glove for three-season hill walking
- Cool, dry days and mornings when a thin glove is enough
- Layering under a shell glove or mitt in winter
Strengths
- 50 g for the pair
- 263 g/m2 stretch Powerfleece with a brushed back
- Touchscreen-compatible index finger and thumb
- Extended double-layered cuff and box finger construction
Weaknesses
- No water-repellent or waterproof claim: hands get wet in rain
- No grip print on the palm (the Stretch Fleece Grip Glove has one)
- Thin: not a stand-alone glove for winter days
- No independent review found, so warmth, dexterity and durability scores are blank
