Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: heavy fleece 5/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much they add to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
50 g for the pair, Mountain Equipment's figure on its product page (size not stated): the under-60 g band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists a size M pair at 44 g, also in that band.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 2/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 2: A weak point.
A stretch fleece glove with a silicone-print palm. Mountain Equipment says the hardface exterior gives 'wind protection and warmth' but makes no windproof, water-repellent or waterproof claim, and Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists it as not windproof or waterproof. The method's 3 needs a windproof soft shell or a water-repellent finish, so it is the 'no claim' band for fleece.
What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Dexterity*
Estimate: only 1 review about dexterity (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How easily you can work zips, buckles and a phone with them on.
1 review on dexterity, e.g. "The touch screen finger and thumb tips are very responsive".
Durability*
Estimate: only 1 review about durability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10How well the palms, seams and fingertips hold up over seasons of use.
1 review on durability, e.g. "What you’d expect for a lightweight glove, and as tough as you’d expect for gloves in this category.".
In short
Good for
- Three-season hill walking and scrambling as a light, grippy glove
- Pole and ice axe use on cool days: silicone-print palm
- A backup glove or a liner under a shell glove
Strengths
- 50 g for the pair
- 270 g/m2 microgrid stretch fleece with a hardface exterior
- Silicone-print palm for grip on poles or an axe
- Touchscreen-compatible index finger and thumb, box finger construction
Weaknesses
- No water-repellent or waterproof claim, and one UK shop lists it as not windproof
- Thin: not for cold winter days on its own
- No clip or loop to keep the pair together
- Only one independent review found, so warmth, dexterity and durability scores are blank
