Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: insulated glove 7/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 7: Better than most.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 5/10How much they add to your pack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
150 g for the pair, Mountain Equipment's figure on its product page (size not stated): the 110-179 g band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists pairs at 131 g (S), 135 g (M), 145 g (L) and 148 g (XL), also in that band.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 4/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 4: A bit below average.
Mountain Equipment's own DRILITE membrane, listed on the glove's page as a 'DRILITE insert' that is 'waterproof and breathable'. Its DRILITE page calls DRILITE its own waterproof and breathable membrane technology, and the glove's page says the technology 'seals out the worst of the weather', but no page says the insert itself is sealed or seam-sealed: that line is marketing for keeping weather out, and the 'helps to seal out weather' wording belongs to the wrist drawcord. DRILITE is Mountain Equipment's own fabric range, not a named membrane maker. The method's 4 band needs a sealed insert, so a glove with its own membrane and no statement that the insert is sealed is the 2 band, the same call as the Extremities X-Dry gloves and the OEX Summit. It would be the 4 band if Mountain Equipment said the insert is sealed.
In short
Good for
- Cold, wet winter hill walking and trekking
- Pole and ice axe use: Suregrip palm and pre-curved fingers
Strengths
- DRILITE waterproof, breathable insert with POLARLOFT insulation and a microfleece lining
- 150 g for the pair
- 160D nylon Oxford outer, roll-tip fingers and a Suregrip palm
- Single-handed drawcord closure at the wrist
- Sizes S to XXL; Mountain Equipment guarantees its gear against defects in components, materials and workmanship for the reasonable life of the product
Weaknesses
- Insert not described as sealed, so waterproofing scores 4
- No touchscreen fingertips
- The POLARLOFT amount isn't stated, so warmth can't be compared on numbers
- New for autumn 2026 with no independent review yet, so warmth, dexterity and durability scores are blank
