Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much it adds to your pack. 7: Better than most.
Lifeventure gives 555 g, in the 400–599 g band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear and Basecamp Gear list 518 g without the stuff sack, the same band.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 7/10How well the fabric keeps out heavy, long rain. 7: Better than most.
Lifeventure gives 11,000 mm hydrostatic head for its PU-coated 70D ripstop nylon, in the 10,000–14,999 mm band. It gives one figure for the whole bag (only the breathability figure is marked "top"), which counts for the floor too under the bivvy rule, so nothing is taken off. Its 15,000 g/m²/24 h breathability figure is for the top only and is not scored.
Packed size
From maker's figures 9/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Lifeventure gives 235 x 100 x 100 mm, two equal smaller sides, so a round stuff sack (length x diameter): 3.1416 x 5 x 5 x 23.5 = 1,846 cm³, about 1.8 L, under the 2.5 L line. Ultralight Outdoor Gear and Basecamp Gear list 235 x 120 x 120 mm (about 2.7 L, the next band down); we band Lifeventure's own figure. As a 23.5 x 10 x 10 cm box it would be 2.35 L, also under the line.
In short
Good for
- Dry or showery summer nights, as a waterproof cover over a sleeping bag
- A light, simple bivvy to use under a tarp on backpacking or bikepacking trips
Strengths
- 555 g, packing to about 1.8 L (23.5 cm x 10 cm), Lifeventure's figures
- 11,000 mm hydrostatic head, taped seams and PU-coated 70D ripstop nylon
- 250 cm long and up to 95 cm wide (Lifeventure's figures)
- Zipped hood entry with a rain flap, plus mesh panels for airflow
Weaknesses
- No independent hands-on test found, so condensation, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- Flat design with no pole: the fabric lies on top of your sleeping bag
- Its breathability figure (15,000 g/m²/24 h) is for the top fabric only, and the floor's isn't given
