Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Protection
From maker's figures 8/10What it removes from water, and how well that is proved. 8: Clearly better than most.
0.2 µm membrane microfilter plus an activated carbon stage. LifeStraw's page says it meets US EPA and NSF P231 drinking water standards for removing bacteria and parasites (99.999999% and 99.999%), and NSF 42 for chlorine reduction. A named standard for bacteria and protozoa, so 4. No virus claim.
Flow rate
Estimate from maker's specs: filter type (no flow rate published) 3/10How fast clean water comes through when it is new. Real flow drops as it clogs: see Ease of use. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

Weight
From maker's figures 5/10How much it adds to your pack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
247 g for the bottle with both filters (LifeStraw, and GO Outdoors' listing). WildBounds' page text says 227 g; both are in the 150 to 299 g band.
Ease of use
Estimate from maker's specs: filter type 7/10Filling, squeezing or pumping effort, how fast it clogs in peaty or silty water, and how easy it is to clean. 7: Better than most.

In short
Good for
- Daily drinking and travel where tap or stream water is doubtful
- Short walks and day hikes with a drink-as-you-go bottle
- Trips where chlorine or taste from tap water is a concern (carbon stage)
- Walkers who want one bottle instead of a bottle plus filter
Strengths
- Membrane and carbon stage in one bottle (4,000 L membrane, 100 L carbon)
- Meets US EPA and NSF P231 for bacteria and parasites, and NSF 42 for chlorine (LifeStraw)
- Narrow body, 650 ml, with a covered mouthpiece and a carry handle
- Both filters replaceable; bottle is dishwasher safe once filters are out
- Bottle made from 50% recycled plastic (GO Outdoors)
Weaknesses
- 247 g, heavy for a filter compared with a 102 g squeeze bottle
- No virus claim: it removes bacteria and parasites, not viruses (Australian Hiker)
- Rigid bottle: you cannot squeeze water into another container
- Carbon stage needs replacing about every 100 L, roughly every two months of daily use (LifeStraw)
- LifeStraw does not recommend freezing the bottle or filter
- LifeStraw publishes no flow rate, and Fellkit found only one review of this version
