In short
Good for
- Walkers with sore knees or heavy packs who want shock absorption on long descents
- Hillwalkers and backpackers who want a sturdy aluminium pole with a 100-135 cm range
- Walkers who pitch a trekking-pole shelter and need poles that reach 135 cm
Strengths
- Leki's Dynamic Suspension System (DSS) tip, which Leki says cuts impact by about 40%
- Aluminium HTS 6.5 shaft in 16, 14 and 12 mm tubes, 253 g per pole (506 g a pair)
- Wide 100-135 cm length range on external Speed Lock Plus levers
- Aergon Air grip with a rubberised head and a foam extension, so you can hold lower without changing length
- Skin Strap 5.0 and Trekking Basket 2.0 supplied
Weaknesses
- Packs to 67 cm, much longer than a folding pole
- The DSS tip must always be used with a basket and not in snow (Leki)
- The 40% impact figure is Leki's own, cited from a university study; we have not seen an independent test of it on this pole
- Lock, grip and durability scores are blank: no independent review of the current version found
