Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 6/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 6: A bit better than average.
Ledlenser gives 400 lumens in Power mode (4 hours), and its UK FAQ says it measures its lights to ANSI/FL1 (the product page doesn't repeat it): the 300–499 band.
Runtime
From maker's figures 5/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
The only mode of 80 lumens or more is the 400-lumen one, which runs 4 hours (Ledlenser's figure), in the 4–5.9 h band. The 20-lumen low mode runs 35 hours but is under 80 lumens, so it doesn't count.
Weight
From maker's figures 6/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 6: A bit better than average.
Ledlenser lists 94 g with the battery, in the 90–109 g band (Yachting World also gives 94 g).
In short
Good for
- Short night walks and camp chores where light weight (94 g) matters
- A spare-battery safety net: it also runs on one AA battery
- Looking a long way ahead: the focus ring gives a 180 m spot
Strengths
- 94 g with the battery, light for a 400-lumen lamp
- Focus ring from flood to a 180 m spot, and a red light for night vision
- Runs on the rechargeable battery or one AA battery (alkaline or NiMH)
- The lamp head unclips from the headband to go on a belt or a bag
- 7-year warranty with online registration; the headband can be replaced
Weaknesses
- Only 4 hours at 400 lumens, and the low mode is 20 lumens
- Magnetic charging cable only: you must carry Ledlenser's own cable
- IP54: splash-proof, not for immersion
- Ledlenser says it is an older design, first released in 2018
- The focus ring is fiddly with gloves (Yachting World)
- Comfort is an estimate, not a reviewed score: only two reviewers give a verdict
