Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 5/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Ledlenser gives 300 lumens in the Standard Power mode (2.5 hours), and its UK FAQ says it measures its lights to ANSI/FL1 (the product page doesn't repeat it): the 300–499 band. The 450-lumen boost is described as a short burst and is not counted.
Runtime
From maker's figures 9/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
The 100-lumen Mid Power mode runs 10 hours (Ledlenser's figure), in the 10 h+ band. Ledlenser's page doesn't say which battery the times are for: three AAA alkaline come in the box, and it also takes AAA NiMH or a 1350 mAh USB-C cell. The 300-lumen mode lasts 2.5 hours and the 20-lumen low mode 40 hours.
Weight
From maker's figures 5/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Ledlenser lists 102 g with batteries (the three AAA), in the 90–109 g band. Knives and Tools' text gives 66 g, probably without batteries, which we don't use.
In short
Good for
- Walkers and campers who want a light head torch with spot, flood and red beams and swappable AAA batteries
- Close-up and distance light: 100 m beam in the 300-lumen mode (Ledlenser's figure)
- Trips where you swap AAA cells on the trail, with a rechargeable battery as a later upgrade
Strengths
- 100 lumens for 10 hours and 300 lumens for 2.5 hours (Ledlenser's figures)
- IP67 water rating and a 1.5 m drop test on a 102 g lamp
- Runs on the three AAA alkaline in the box, or on a rechargeable battery sold separately
- Spot and flood beams, a separate red front light and a stepless 55° tilt
- 7-year warranty with online registration
Weaknesses
- No rechargeable battery in the box: it comes with three AAA alkaline, and a rechargeable one is sold separately
- The 450-lumen boost is a short burst: 300 lumens lasts only 2.5 hours
- Steady 300 lumens is the top setting; the 100-lumen mode lasts 10 hours
