Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 3/10How much it adds to your pack. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
630 g is Jetboil's published system weight (Jetboil US and UK pages, repeated by Trekitt at 629 g). Jetboil says the figure leaves out the 27 g fuel stabiliser, as it does for the Flash 1.0L and Zip, so we don't add it. SectionHiker weighed 675 g. The published figure is in the 450-649 g band; with the stabiliser added (657 g) it would be the 650 g and over band.
Fuel use
From maker's figures 10/10How much fuel it burns to boil a litre in calm air: less fuel to carry. 10: The best you can buy for this.
Jetboil says 12 litres per 100 g canister (US and UK pages), which is 8.3 g per litre; Treeline Review quotes 10 litres (10 g per litre). Either is under the 11 g line.
Boil speed (calm air)
From maker's figures 7/10How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in calm air. 7: Better than most.
Jetboil says 130 s (2 min 10 s) per 0.5 litre (average over the life of a can), scaled to 260 s for 1 litre (scaled), in the 210-269 s band. Jetboil's UK page also says 4 min 15 s for a litre (255 s, the same band). Treeline Review timed about 4 min 30 s for 1 litre.
In short
Good for
- Groups of two to four who cook shared one-pot meals at the campsite or on a short walk-in
- Trips where simmer control matters and a 2.0 L ceramic-coated pot suits the group
- Car camping or van trips where weight and packed size (16.6 x 10.1 cm) matter less
Strengths
- 2.0 L ceramic-coated pot that cooks for two to four people; Treeline Review made stew, tacos and scrambled eggs in it
- Regulated 1.8 kW burner with fine simmer control (Treeline Review)
- Jetboil quotes 2 min 10 s for 0.5 litre; Treeline Review timed about 4 min 30 s for 1 litre
- 8.3 g of fuel per litre boiled (Jetboil: 12 litres per 100 g canister)
Weaknesses
- 630 g before fuel and stabiliser (SectionHiker weighed 675 g), the heaviest of the Jetboil systems we cover
- SectionHiker found a 220 g canister does not fit inside the pot, and the packed parts rattle
- The pot rests on the supports rather than locking on (SectionHiker); Treeline Review says it was steady once seated
- The flame is concentrated in the middle of the pot, so frequent stirring is needed (SectionHiker)
- No cold-weather rating beyond the regulator, and no wind evidence we can score
