Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 8/10

How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 8: Clearly better than most.

HydraPak lists 62 g for 0.525 L (UK and US pages agree): 118 g per litre, in the 100–179 g/L band (band 5 is under 100 g/L). Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists the same 62 g. HydraPak's material list includes the strap's neoprene, nylon and polyester, so the 62 g appears to cover the bottle and strap together, but its page does not say so.

Packed size (empty)

From maker's figures 4/10

How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 4: A bit below average.

HydraPak does not say this bottle collapses: it describes an ergonomic squeeze bottle that also fits in a running vest, and we found no UK shop or tester giving a rolled size. We therefore draw it at its full size as a cylinder from its height and width, as for the rigid bottles. HydraPak gives 237 mm by 61 mm and does not say whether that includes the cap: 3.1416 x 3.05 x 3.05 x 23.7 = 693 cm³, so 0.69 L empty for 0.525 L held (1.32 L per litre), in the 1.3–1.79 band, only just. If the 237 mm includes the cap, the body is shorter and the score could be 3; we use the figures as published, which score lower.

In short

Good for

  • Trail running and fast day walks with the bottle in your hand
  • Short outings where you want a drink without stopping to open a pack
  • Anyone who finds a squeeze bottle easier than a soft flask

Strengths

  • 62 g for 525 ml, about 118 g per litre
  • Sandal-cut strap wraps the wrist so you do not have to grip; adjusts for either hand
  • Pull-to-open nozzle that HydraPak says is leakproof
  • Full-length window shows how much is left
  • Strap comes off and the bottle goes in the dishwasher
  • Beyond Lifetime Guarantee on defects

Weaknesses

  • HydraPak does not say it collapses: 0.69 L of room empty for 525 ml of water
  • A running-style bottle (HydraPak lists it under running hydration), small for a day on the hill
  • No independent test found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
