Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 3/10How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
GSI's page text gives no weight, so this is the figure in its product data, which may include packaging: 318 g for 0.71 L, 448 g per litre, in the 300–499 g/L band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 296 g (417 g per litre), the same band, so the score does not depend on which figure is right.
Packed size (empty)
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 4: A bit below average.
A rigid bottle does not shrink, so we draw it as a cylinder from its height and width. GSI gives three dimensions and no body diameter; converted, they are 25.1 cm tall, 9.9 cm and 7.4 cm. In GSI's photos the body is about 0.3 times as wide as the bottle is tall, which matches 7.4 cm over 25.1 cm (0.29), not 9.9 cm (0.39); the wider figure is the carry loop and nozzle on the lid. 3.1416 x 3.7 x 3.7 x 25.1 = 1,080 cm³, so 1.08 L empty for 0.71 L held (1.52 per litre), in the 1.3–1.79 band. If 9.9 cm were the body it would be 1.93 L, 2.72 per litre, band 1.
In short
Good for
- Cold water on day walks and rides: the straw lid opens and closes with one hand
- A bottle that fits a car cup holder and keeps drinks cold (GSI quotes over 30 hours)
- Anyone who prefers sipping through a straw to tipping a bottle up
Strengths
- Straw lid with a moving nozzle and a straw length you can adjust (GSI)
- GSI quotes cold drinks staying cold for over 30 hours, with 2 mm walls and an insulated lid
- Made from recycled stainless steel and recycled polypropylene (GSI)
- Lifetime warranty against material and workmanship defects (GSI)
Weaknesses
- GSI says it is not intended for hot liquids, so it is a cold-drink bottle only
- 318 g for 0.71 L: 448 g per litre
- 1.08 L of pack room for 0.71 L of drink
- GSI's own page gives no weight; the 318 g comes from its product data, and the shop figure is 296 g
- No independent review was found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
