Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 4/10

How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 4: A bit below average.

GSI's live page gives a 1.4 L pot, and GSI's own earlier page for the same SKU 50277 (archived on the Wayback Machine on 18 Sept 2025) gave the whole set's weight in imperial units, which converts to 473 g (pot, strainer lid, 2 mugs, 2 bowls, 2 sip-it tops, 2 sporks and welded sink); GSI's live page data still says 473 g. The pot alone counts for capacity. 473 g for 1.4 L = 338 g per litre, in the 300-449 g/L band. OutdoorGearLab gives about 540 g (converted from its pounds) and Ultralight Outdoor Gear 506 g.

Cooking and ease of use

From reviews 7/10

How evenly it heats, whether food sticks or burns, cleaning, and the handles, lid, pouring and steadiness on a small stove. 7: Better than most.

Three hands-on sources. OutdoorGearLab (3; 17 Sept 2026) liked the quick boil and the pour spout, but marked down cooking and cleaning: scrambled eggs were hard to clean off and it isn't meant for frying. Explore Trek Adventure (4; says the video is not sponsored) cooked a dehydrated stew in the pot, boiled fast and would buy it, but notes food catches so it needs a thorough wash. Big World Small Feet (4; bought it at REI) used it for the first time in a garden: boiled 360 ml, strained through the lid with little leakage and found the set sturdy, but cooked nothing beyond boiling and pouring, so it is scored 4, not higher. Scores 3, 4 and 4: average 3.7 out of 5, so 7 out of 10. The two videos cover the Microdualist II; the weight Explore Trek reads out (473 g converted) matches the weight GSI lists for the current set.

In short

Good for

  • Two people sharing a pot, with a mug and bowl each
  • Boiling water for dehydrated meals and instant coffee (OutdoorGearLab)
  • Straining pasta through the lid

Strengths

  • 473 g for the full two-person set
  • Quick boil in OutdoorGearLab's controlled tests
  • Pour spout and strainer lid; welded stuff sack doubles as a wash basin
  • Metal sporks that lock open

Weaknesses

  • 338 g per litre: heavy for its capacity
  • Food sticks to the uncoated pot, so frying is hard to clean (OutdoorGearLab)
  • Insulating foam on the mugs may wear first (OutdoorGearLab)
