Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 6/10

How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 6: A bit better than average.

GSI's live page gives a 1.1 L pot (it also sells a 1.8 L size). Its page for the same SKU 50190 (GSI's own page, archived on the Wayback Machine on 18 June 2026) gave the weight in imperial units, which converts to 244 g with lid and mesh sack; GSI's live page data now gives it as 245 g. 244 g for 1.1 L = 222 g per litre, in the 220-299 g/L band (just under the 4 band): a weight rounded to the nearest tenth of an ounce could be anything from 242.4 g to 245.2 g, which is 220 to 223 g per litre, so it is band 3 either way. Other figures, not used: Ultralight Outdoor Gear 232 g, Absolute Snow 243 g, BackpackingChef weighed 225 g, Trailspace's reviewer weighed 212 g for pot, lid and handle.

Cooking and ease of use

From reviews 8/10

How evenly it heats, whether food sticks or burns, cleaning, and the handles, lid, pouring and steadiness on a small stove. 8: Clearly better than most.

Three hands-on sources, all 4. SectionHiker (4; GSI supplied a sample, disclosed) says anodised aluminium heats evenly and suits more than boiling water, praises the locking handle and notes no strainer holes. Trailspace (4; 2017; the reviewer bought it new) praises heat transfer and the proper lid but finds the lid could fit tighter, and says they only boil water in it. Indian Hemlock (4) boiled water for coffee fast, says it performs very well and likes the metal lid. The Trailspace review is the oldest: it describes the same SKU 50190 1.1 L Halulite pot, but notes its handle as polymer-coated steel.

In short

Good for

  • One person boiling water and simmering simple meals
  • Nesting a stove and a 230 g canister inside (SectionHiker; Indian Hemlock)
  • Cold-season trips where even heating matters more than the last 50 g

Strengths

  • 244 g for 1.1 L with lid, 222 g per litre
  • Locking handle folds over the lid and won't open in a pack (SectionHiker)
  • Metal lid with a silicone tab, and a mesh stuff sack
  • Volume marks stamped inside and outside (SectionHiker)

Weaknesses

  • Lid has no strainer holes (SectionHiker)
  • Lid could fit tighter (Trailspace)
  • Slightly heavier than titanium pots of similar size
  • The mesh stuff sack is the only carry bag
