Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 4/10How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 4: A bit below average.
GSI's page text shows no weight, but GSI's own product data gives 494 g, so that is used. Capacity is the 1 L pot plus the 355 ml cup = 1.355 L; the pan has no stated volume and is not counted. 494 g for 1.355 L = 365 g per litre, in the 300-449 g/L band. The weight also covers the bowl and sack, which hold no volume, so the kit is scored conservatively.
Cooking and ease of use
Estimate from maker's specs: what it is made of 5/10How evenly it heats, whether food sticks or burns, cleaning, and the handles, lid, pouring and steadiness on a small stove. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Estimate from maker's specs
In short
Good for
- One person cooking and eating from a single nested kit
- Car camping or short trips where 494 g is acceptable
- Frying or heating in the lid pan while the pot boils
Strengths
- Pot, frying pan lid, cup, bowl and stuff sack in one kit (GSI)
- Stainless steel with no coating to wear off
- Folding locking handles (GSI)
- Cup is graduated (GSI)
Weaknesses
- About 494 g, heavy next to a titanium solo set
- Stainless steel is heavier than titanium or aluminium
- GSI's page text shows no weight; the figure is in its product data
- Cooking and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores: not enough independent evidence
- Only two UK shops found; GSI's own page is its US shop, in dollars
