Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 2/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 2: A weak point.
Fjallraven's minimum weight of 2.79 kg is in the 2.7 kg+ band (3.16 kg with pegs, guylines and sack; Outdoorguru weighed it at 3.40 kg).
Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.
Fly 3,000 mm is in the 3,000 mm+ band, and the 6,000 mm floor is over 2,000 mm, so no point is taken off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.
Wind
From reviews 9/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Reviewers praise it: Expedition Portal calls it a backcountry bomb shelter, Vandrefalk found it very stable in wind and rain and Outdoorguru found it very windproof over a year. Its guylines need to be pegged out for full strength, and it takes a second set of poles.
Space
From maker's figures 7/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 7: Better than most.
Fjallraven's size drawing gives an inner of 220 x 130 cm: 2.86 m² ÷ 2 people = 1.43 m² each, in the 1.35-1.59 band. Outdoorguru measured the same 130 x 220 cm. Height is 100 cm and each side has a door and a porch 80 cm deep.
Packed size
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.
Packs to 44 cm long x 19 cm across: 3.1416 x 9.5 x 9.5 x 44 = 12,475 cm³, so 12.48 L, in the 10-14.9 L band.
What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Pitching*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about pitching (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.
2 reviews on pitching, e.g. "I’ll be the first to admit this slows setup".
Condensation*
Reviewers' average 8/10How dry it stays inside on still, damp nights; higher is drier.
3 reviews on condensation, e.g. "mit effektiver Ventilation überzeugt".
Durability*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about durability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How well the fabric, poles, zips and seams hold up over seasons of use.
2 reviews on durability, e.g. "I’d be hard pressed to find many faults with either the design or materials.".
In short
Good for
- Two people who want a freestanding four-season tent for UK hills, spring to winter
- Camps where you must pitch on rock or hard ground and cannot get pegs in
- Longer stays in poor weather, with two doors and two porches
Strengths
- Freestanding three-pole dome that you can move after pitching, with two doors and two porches 80 cm deep
- Praised as very windproof by three reviewers, with extra-wide pole sleeves for a second set of poles
- Roomy for two: 220 x 130 cm inner and 100 cm high
- Ventilation can be opened wide for summer or closed up for cold nights; mesh doors and top vents
- Fly 3,000 mm and floor 6,000 mm, and a good repair kit in the box
Weaknesses
- Heavy for a two-person tent: 2.79 kg minimum, 3.16 kg with pegs and sack (Outdoorguru weighed 3.40 kg)
- Bulky when packed: 44 x 19 cm, about 12.5 L
- Pole sleeves slow pitching, and the many guylines tangle if packed carelessly
- Some condensation in cold weather (Outdoorguru), and he advises a footprint
- The independent reviews we found date from 2016 to 2019; Fjallraven's weight, fabrics and poles for the tent are the same on its 2020 page (archived) and in the 2016 review's spec list
