Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much the pair adds to your hands and pack. 7: Better than most.
Fizan's Summer 2026 catalogue gives 215 g for the Ultrax Carbon without saying in words whether that is one pole or a pair. The catalogue prints it beside a single drawn pole, Kaviso (a US shop) lists the Ultrax range per pole (207 g for its Carbon, 260 g for the Alu), and Live For The Outdoors weighed 229 g a pole, so a pair at 215 g (107 g a pole) is not possible. Doubled to 430 g for the pair: the 300-449 g band. Live For The Outdoors weighed 229 g a pole (458 g a pair, the 450-549 g band) and Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists the same 229 g; Fizan's figure is the one scored.
Packed size
From maker's figures 10/10Whether they fit inside or along a rucksack. 10: The best you can buy for this.
Fizan gives 37 cm folded (its page and catalogue): under 45 cm. Live For The Outdoors gives 37 cm too.
In short
Good for
- Backpackers whose trekking-pole tent or tarp needs a pole up to 135 cm
- Day packs and side pockets: 37 cm folded
Strengths
- 430 g a pair (215 g a pole, Fizan), 37 cm folded
- 112-135 cm range with a lever-lock top section, a rarity on folding poles (Live For The Outdoors)
- Carbon shafts that damp vibration on rocky ground (Live For The Outdoors)
- Two basket sets (35 and 50 mm), rubber tip covers and carbide tips included
Weaknesses
- Live For The Outdoors weighed 229 g a pole against Fizan's 215 g, and called it heavy for carbon
- The loose Velcro strap does not hold the folded sections tight, so they dangle and rattle (Live For The Outdoors)
- Carbon can snap under sideways load, unlike aluminium that bends first (Live For The Outdoors)
- Lock, grip and durability scores are blank: only one independent test
