Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
48.5 g (Fire-Maple; the product file takes whole grams, so 49 g) sits under the 60 g line either way. Three Points of the Compass weighed 48.8 g. The plastic case is another 39 g.
Packed size
From maker's figures 7/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 7: Better than most.
Fire-Maple gives 50 x 80 mm packed, read as a roll 8.0 cm long and 5.0 cm across: 3.14 x 2.5 x 2.5 x 8.0 = 157 cm3, about 0.157 L, in the 0.08-0.19 L band. Three Points of the Compass measured 81 x 41 mm folded (0.107 L as a cylinder), also band 4.

In short
Good for
- Solo trips where you want a very light stove that takes a wider pot better than the FMS-300T
- Three-season trips in sheltered camps
- Walkers who want wider pot supports without a big weight penalty
Strengths
- 49 g and about 0.16 L packed (8.0 x 5.0 cm)
- Fire-Maple quotes 3 min 25 s for 1 litre with 2,500 W output
- Redesigned supports lock in place and reach about 11 cm across (Three Points of the Compass measured about 11 cm against the 12.2 cm Fire-Maple claims)
- A lip round the burner gives some protection from side breezes (Three Points of the Compass)
- Comes with a hard case and a three-year warranty
Weaknesses
- Still needs a windshield in wind, and the stove stands tall so the windshield must be tall too (Three Points of the Compass)
- Top-heavy with a big pot of water, so a remote stove is safer for large pots
- Setting up the supports takes a slide and twist that is awkward at first; one reviewer's stove wobbled
- The valve block has no brass thread insert, so over-tightening on a canister can damage it (Three Points of the Compass)
- No igniter or regulator, so carry a lighter; not for winter
- Fire-Maple's 12.2 cm support width was not reached in one reviewer's measurement
