Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
45 g (Fire-Maple; Three Points of the Compass weighed 42.8 g) sits under the 60 g line.
Packed size
From maker's figures 9/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Fire-Maple gives the packed size as 40 x 51 mm, and Ultralight Outdoor Gear copies it; read as a roll 5.1 cm long and 4.0 cm across: 3.14 x 2.0 x 2.0 x 5.1 = 64 cm3, about 0.064 L, under the 0.08 L line. Three Points of the Compass measured 37 x 52 mm folded (0.056 L as a roll), also band 5.
Boil speed (still air)
From maker's figures 7/10How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in still air. Wind slows every stove: see Wind performance. 7: Better than most.
Fire-Maple's current product page for this model says about 3 min 30 s (210 s) for 1 litre, in the 190-229 s band. The Ultralight Outdoor Gear listing says 3 min 50 s (230 s), which would be band 3; that is shop copy, so the Fire-Maple figure is used.
Wind performance
Estimate from maker's specs: windshield in the box 3/10How well it keeps boiling in a breeze, as sold, without an extra windshield. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

In short
Good for
- Boiling water for one in a small pot or mug on short trips
- Weight-conscious walkers with a sheltered spot to cook
- A backup stove that fits in a mug with a 100 g canister
Strengths
- 45 g and about 0.06 L packed (5.1 x 4.0 cm)
- Fire-Maple quotes 3 min 30 s for 1 litre with 2,600 W output
- Stronger pot supports than the cheaper BRS 3000-T, which can soften and bend (Three Points of the Compass)
- Three-year warranty from Fire-Maple
Weaknesses
- Exposed burner: Fire-Maple itself says it is not windproof, and reviewers call wind performance poor
- Narrow flame and small supports suit small pots and mugs; simmering is hard because the flame blows out when turned low (Three Points of the Compass)
- Uses 185 g of gas an hour, so a long trip needs more fuel than with a more efficient stove
- No igniter or regulator, so carry a lighter; not for winter
- Pot supports flop around when folded (Three Points of the Compass)
- Boil time is 3 min 30 s on Fire-Maple's page but 3 min 50 s on the UK shop's listing
